Ecommerce Photographer: Bugatchi photoshoot BTS

Ecommerce Photographer

As an ecommerce photographer, capturing high-quality images that represent brands accurately and attractively is my primary goal. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on a photoshoot for the Bugatchi fashion brand, I’ve being working for past 10 years as freelance photographer. Here’s a detailed look into the process and some tips for improving the cost and quality of commercial photoshoots.

Shoot Preparation

Commercial advertising photographers often work with creative teams to develop mood boards that align with the brand’s image. For the Bugatchi shoot, our creative team created a mood board that reflected the brand’s high standards and luxurious appeal. The models were booked by the company in-house team and flown in from NYC, LA, and Europe, to bring a diverse and high-fashion look to the shoot.

Preparation included planning all looks beforehand and steaming the clothes a day before the shoot. The shoot itself was a full-day event, lasting 10 hours and involving a dedicated team of stylists, makeup artists, models, videographers, and a creative director.

Light Setup for Ecommerce Photoshoot

For the Bugatchi shoot, we used a 9-foot seamless white background and Profoto D2 lights. Our setup included an Elinchrom Indirect Litemotiv Octa Softbox on the left side of the model, a white V flat on the right, and a Matthews Butterfly/Overhead Frame above, with a Profoto D2 light facing down. This configuration provided even lighting for both the background and the clothing.

My Secrets to Simplify Ecommerce Photoshoots

As a seasoned commercial lifestyle photographer, I have developed several techniques to streamline the photoshoot process and ensure consistency:

  1. Use a Tripod: Ensures consistency across all shots and maintains stability.
  2. Remote Button: Allows me to see the monitor and interact with the model while shooting.
  3. AC adapter: Prevents the need to frequently replace camera batteries, saving time and reducing interruptions. Camera used: Nikon D850
  4. Mark the Model’s Position: Setting up a mark for the model in the best light spot helps maintain consistency in lighting and positioning. Remind the model to stay on the mark for optimal results.
  5. Team Involvement: Ensure that all team members are actively involved in the shoot and that the creative director is satisfied with the direction.
